Five consecutive years in the MICHELIN Guide
When the MICHELIN Guide published its first selection of Estonian restaurants in 2022, Restaurant Moon was among those recommended. Moon has been included in the Guide's selection every year since – in 2022, 2023, 2024, 2025 and 2026.
MICHELIN Guide inspectors visit restaurants anonymously and are treated exactly like any other guest. Their assessment focuses on the cuisine: the quality of the ingredients, the harmony of flavours, mastery of cooking techniques, the personality of the chef expressed in the food, and consistency across the menu and over time. Five consecutive recommendations reflect our commitment to quality and consistency.

- Consistency – consistent quality across the whole menu and over time.
BEHIND THE SCENES
How the MICHELIN Guide assesses restaurants
A MICHELIN Guide recommendation is the result of a thorough assessment process. Restaurants are visited by anonymous inspectors who assess every restaurant by the same principles.
01
Anonymous visits
MICHELIN Guide inspectors visit restaurants anonymously. They book a table like any other guest, order from the menu and pay their own bill.
02
More than one visit
Where it is needed for a decision, inspectors may visit a restaurant more than once. This helps to assess whether the quality stays consistent from visit to visit.
03
Five assessment criteria
Inspectors assess restaurants against five criteria: the quality of the ingredients, the harmony of flavours, mastery of cooking techniques, the personality of the chef in the cuisine, and consistency across the menu and over time.
04
The same standards worldwide
The MICHELIN Guide applies the same assessment principles in every country. Estonian restaurants are assessed by the same standards as restaurants elsewhere in the world.
05
An annual selection
MICHELIN Guide Estonia publishes a new selection of restaurants once a year. The final decisions are made by an international team of anonymous inspectors.

A restaurant to come back to

„A MICHELIN recommendation is not a goal in itself for us – it is a sign that we are on the right track.“
– Roman Zaštšerinski, Head Chef · Restaurant Moon

FAQ
Frequently asked questions about the MICHELIN Guide
What is the MICHELIN Guide?+
The MICHELIN Guide is one of the best-known restaurant guides in the world, first published in France in 1900. Restaurants are assessed by anonymous inspectors who visit as ordinary guests and pay for their own meals. The Guide recognises restaurants with MICHELIN Stars, the Bib Gourmand and the Recommended category.
What does MICHELIN Guide Recommended mean?+
Recommended means that the restaurant is part of the MICHELIN Guide's official selection and that the inspectors consider it worth a visit. It is a distinct form of recognition, separate from MICHELIN Stars and the Bib Gourmand.
Does Restaurant Moon have a MICHELIN Star?+
Restaurant Moon is currently in the MICHELIN Guide's Recommended category. Moon has received this recognition every year since the first Estonian MICHELIN Guide was published in 2022.
When did Moon first receive MICHELIN Guide recognition?+
Restaurant Moon received its first MICHELIN Guide recommendation in 2022, when the first Estonian MICHELIN Guide was published. Moon has been among the Guide's recommended restaurants every year since.
How does the MICHELIN Guide assess restaurants?+
MICHELIN Guide inspectors assess restaurants against five criteria: the quality of the ingredients, the harmony of flavours, mastery of cooking techniques, the personality of the chef in the cuisine, and consistency across the menu and over time. The same principles are applied in every country where the MICHELIN Guide assesses restaurants.
How many MICHELIN Guide restaurants are there in Estonia?+
The MICHELIN Guide Estonia 2026 selection includes 43 restaurants. Among them are a two-star restaurant, a one-star restaurant, Bib Gourmand restaurants and Recommended restaurants, which include Restaurant Moon.
Is a MICHELIN Guide restaurant always expensive?+
Not necessarily. The MICHELIN Guide covers restaurants at very different price levels. Current prices for Moon's starters, main courses and desserts are always on our menu page.
Is there a dress code at Moon?+
There is no formal dress code at Moon. Most guests go for smart casual, but the most important thing is that you feel comfortable.
How far in advance should I book a table?+
Availability varies by day and season. On weekdays a table is often available the same day or the next. For weekends, we recommend booking about a week ahead; for holidays, special dates and other popular periods, earlier still if possible. Current availability is always visible in DinnerBooking, or ask us by phone at +372 6 314 575.
What is the difference between Recommended and the Bib Gourmand?+
The MICHELIN Guide's Recommended category brings together restaurants the inspectors recommend visiting. The Bib Gourmand is a separate distinction for restaurants offering particularly good value for money. Both are part of the MICHELIN Guide's official selection, but they mark different kinds of recognition.
Why does the MICHELIN Guide recommend Restaurant Moon?+
The MICHELIN Guide does not publish full assessment reports for individual restaurants. Its description of Moon highlights the menu rooted in Slavic cuisine, the seasonal approach and the quality of the ingredients. For us, the recommendation reflects consistent work and attention to the quality of the food.
